Sodium Polyacrylate

Overview

Sodium polyacrylate, is white or light yellow lump or powder, liquid product is colourless or light yellow viscous liquid. It is obtained from acrylic acid and its esters as raw material by polymerisation in aqueous solution.

Odourless, soluble in sodium hydroxide aqueous solution, precipitated in calcium hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide and other aqueous solutions, sodium polyacrylate also has a strong water absorption, conventional sodium polyacrylate’s water absorption (pure water) is hundreds of times its own, improved products can reach thousands of times.

It is often used as a water treatment agent, brine refining and latex thickening, and can also be used as a viscosity builder and emulsifier for food. Sodium polyacrylate is a polymer compound with both hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups, which is very strong in drawing moisture. It can slowly dissolve in water to form extremely viscous transparent liquid, the viscosity of 0.5% solution is about 1Pa-s, and its viscosity is roughly equal to that of CMC, which is 15~20 times of sodium alginate.

Sodium polyacrylate can be used as thickener, emulsifier, film-forming agent, dispersant. It is used in the preparation of masks, emulsions and so on. It can also be used as descaling agent, used in water quality treatment, coating organic glass, paper industry and boiler water treatment. Sodium polyacrylate application area covers the oil industry circulating water system and many other industries, due to the expansion of its application areas, the production technology can be rapidly developed.
